On 17 May 1945, the mysterious ‘R’ dined at the Hotel Adolphus in Dallas, Texas. At this time the hotel described itself as the ‘largest and finest in Dallas, presenting outstanding orchestras and colorful Ice Revues on real Ice.’
The stamp affixed to the back of the card reminds us that World War Two had only recently ended in Europe.
Over his meal, ‘R’ dashed off an intriguing postcard to a Mrs Middleton living in the north of England. He wrote:
‘I’m just dining here – good food as things go but I’ll be mighty glad to have again such as you can provide. Only a few days now…!! Love R.
